Reggae Music exploded in the 70s. It was the first time that a third world country had its voice heard on such a large scale... Since then, a new generation of reggae artists emerged and its creators are still in Jamaica. "Made in Jamaica", the film, is a powerful portrait of the leaders of reggae music movimento and how it became a worldwide phenomenon. It is the story of how a nation, a small island of just three million people took their pain and misery and created such emotions in songs that resonated around the world. Reggae is the "blues" of Jamaica: a music of despair and hope.
Dance Hall emerged from reggae and is attracting crowds around the world. In its origin, the Dance Hall concept is heavily influenced by religious hementos. Like Rap, Dance Hall's message is strong and direct, with lyrics about sex, violence, and social issues, including women's rights. From their creation to international fame, "Made in Jamaica" retells the individual stories of these artists who represent the Jamaican dream.
