Kildare: Tribute to Bob Marley! 25 years since the death of world reggae's greatest icon! Check it out on Surforeggae!
25 years... a time that has only increased the importance of a Jamaican singer and songwriter who is, by many, and increasingly considered, the greatest artist in the third world. The reach of his work, as well as the influence of his libertarian ideas, can be felt – and heard – day after day, anywhere in the world. In Salvador, the largest Afro-descendant city outside of Africa and, therefore, greatly affected by the scope of its ideas (see samba-reggae!) - it could not be different. And it isn't. A large international celebration that will take place on April 8th at Wet´n´wild marks this quarter of a century in the rhythm of reggae. Nothing less than the internationals Alpha Blondy and Andrew Tosh alongside artists of great popularity on the national scene, the band Adão Negro, the band Natiruts and the band Mosiah will perform the “Tribute to Bob”. For Alpha Blondy, a happy return to the place where he sang in front of 30 thousand people (república do reggae 01 in 2003). An artist who also enjoys great prestige around the world. For Andrew Tosh, who was in the last “República” with great success, a “dress rehearsal” for the recording of his first DVD here in Salvador too, in September 2006 on the occasion of the tribute to his father, the great Peter Tosh. The Brasília band, Natiruts, is one of the most successful reggae bands in the country, being part of a select group with an uninterrupted national schedule and a legion of fans far and wide. His show is also a parade of hits from beginning to end. “Adão”, already with a DVD in the square, continues well and is bridging the gap between the more experienced and the new values of the Bahia style. Amid the tours carried out by the group every year in Brazil since 2000, “adão” is currently a reference in Latin America due to the strength of his music and ideas. “Adão Negro” is already preparing an album with songs also in English for next year and is taking flight to the international reggae market. “Mosiah” also needs no introduction to the Bahian public who increasingly attend the band’s shows. Pointed out as one of the greatest values of reggae music in Bahia today, Mosiah is also preparing a new album for this year. Without a doubt, with more pearls of roots reggae, in keeping with their style and as is the band's custom. And the regueiros of Bahia already know: everyone there!
