Irresponsible media: Veja magazine publishes a prejudiced article about Rastafari! Check it out on Surforeggae!

The VEJA magazine, published by Abril, brought a brief article about the album “Welcome To Jamrock” (Damian Marley) in the edition of April 26, 2006. On the last pages of the magazine there is a section in which there are recommendations about books, films, music and musical and theatrical shows. But what was not at all recommendable is the criticism that the author (he did not sign his name) of VEJA makes of the Rastafari religion, when mentioning that Damian Marley (Son of Bob Marley) was a follower of “filosofia rastafari”, the author classified the religion as pseudo-religious nonsense. Furthermore, to conclude this “magnífica” recommendation, he ends by stating that all of this does not contaminate the disk... what do you mean, contaminate? More ridiculous were the comparisons between “Welcome To Jamrock” with Fatboy Slim's dance music, in addition to mentioning rock and rap (these real influences) in Damian's sound, and reggae? It was completely forgotten and mischaracterized.
As far as we know, it is not a disease, virus or poisonous substance, as it is, the magazine VEJA showed why every day it has less credibility among conscious people and especially among young people. It is not the first time this year that some media outlet has published a hypocritical and prejudiced article in relation to reggae. In the last edition of MTV magazine, there was an interview with Bob's mother, Cedella Marley. E the magazine only tried to focus on marijuana consumption linked to the Rasta religion.
If you were also outraged by this article, send your criticism to VEJA and let your friends do the same:

"Welcome to Jamrock, Damian "Jr. All Night, por exemplo, faz lembrar as músicas do DJ inglês Fatboy Slim, enquanto Pimpa’s Paradise is a reinterpretation of a hit by Bob Marley in the 80s (the song, whose lyrics portray the day-to-day life of a groupie, shows that the world of showbiz hasn't changed much since Bob's death). Damian is an adherent of the Rastafarian philosophy, which claims that the bloodthirsty Ethiopian dictator Hailé Selassié was Jesus Cristo reincarnated, but this pseudo-religious nonsense does not contaminate the album."Category
