Geraldo Carvalho dies, a friend and one of the most respected figures in reggae worldwide!

Six years we kind of happen to know a person we never imagined one day we'd call a true friend. As time passed, we discovered how important this person was to Reggae e for everyone else around him. His name ? Geraldo Carvalho. Um great human being who made worth every moment spent in that plan. The man who managed to put Brasil (without taking other people's merits) on the world route of Reggae. Aquele who dedicated his life to fighting for the spread of that rhythm and the ideas he has to share. Artists like Peter Tosh, Andrew Tosh, U Roy, The Itals, Burning Spear, Israel Vibration, Gregory Isaacs, Stanley Beckford, Pato Banton, The Gladiators, Alpha Blondy, Michael Rose, Sylvia Tella, Justin Hinds, Lucky Dube, Steel Pulse, Don Carlos, Fully Fullwood Band, Tribo de Jah e Leões de Israel are just a few examples of musicians from Reggae who lived with him. Not long ago I remember his happiness in telling us "The Don Carlos remembered exactly how many years it was that we didn't work together. That guy really is quite a friend, I'll never forget that." The respect that artists and the entire community had for him was impressive. You want to take the test? Try to make contact with almost all artists from Reggae who have already come to Brasil (and those who have not yet come either). The vast majority, if not unanimous, will ask you the following question: "Você conhece o Geraldo?". Yes, he was very dear and admired by all and left a great legacy that if it depends on us, Equipe Surforeggae - it will never be forgotten. The great Geraldo had been struggling for some time with health problems. He underwent surgery due to gastro-intestinal crises, had been undergoing treatment, but on the 31st of Julho de 2006 he was overcome by the disease, which took him away from us. Your work, your work and all the good you have done will certainly remain forever in the memory of all those who have had the opportunity to meet you. All the words here are few to describe what this person means to us, how he has helped us and the feeling of friendship he has always shown. Geraldo was born on 15/01/1957 and was 49 years old, he will be buried in Ipanema, his hometown on 3 August. He himself used to say to us... Blessings! Descanse em peace!
