Exclusive! Surforeggae shows everything that happened at the Mighty Diamonds and Ijahman Levy shows in Brazil!
Despite all the setbacks in the country recently related to air traffic, Surforeggae went to see up close the memorable performance of two big names in international music: The Mighty Diamonds and Ijahman Levy. The day of the event? December 9, 2006, in São Luiz do Maranhão, the much talked about Jamaica Brasileira. With very popular prices (tickets at R$ 5,00) very different from those in other capitals such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the event brought together an audience of more than 8 thousand people on a night with a starry sky and a full moon.

MIGHTY DIAMONDS

We couldn't say which would be the best presentation, if we could even compare the two attractions, but the first one performing was the vocal trio The Mighty Diamonds, formed in the 70s by Donald "Tabby" Shaw, Lloyd Ferguson and Fitzroy Simpson. Hits like "Pass the Kutchie", "Have Mercy" and "Right Time", written by "Diamonds", are known all over the world. The group was accompanied by excellent musicians from Ijahman Levy's band. With tuned and perfect vocals, just like on their CDs and an inexplicable stage presence, Mighty Diamonds mesmerized the Maranhão public and left a very good feeling and that they need to return very soon to perform for Brasil. To close the night with a flourish, none other than Ijahman Levy, a very successful singer all over the world, mainly in Europe, was invited to attend some of the biggest Reggae festivals in recent years.  Click here and watch the video of "Right Time" from 1977.  Click here and learn more about Mighty Diamonds.

IJAHMAN

Showing that he was in top form, Ijahman (or Me, man of Jah, in Portuguese) burst out with a lot of energy, making everyone sing songs like "Are We a Warrior", "Rat Race" from Bob Marley and "Africa", a hit from the album of the same name, considered by some to be the best of his career. Unfortunately, these Reggae beasts only performed in two cities, namely Belém (on the 8th), where they gathered an audience of more than 10 thousand people and in São Luiz do Maranhão, where the presence of 8 thousand people was estimated. Long live the groups and may they return soon! Click here and watch the video of "Mr. CB" in voice and guitar.
