Jamaican singer Stanley Beckford, the great reggae diffuser in his Caribbean mint, died last week, March 31, at his home in Jamaica. Stanley became well known in Brazil, mainly in the states of Bahia and Maranhão, where he did dozens of shows, having also recorded a CD "Ao Vivo". The artist was 65 years old and was well known for his irreverence on stage.
Some of his best-known works are named The Starlights on the album "Soldering", as well as "Stanley & The Turbines" with albums such as "Africa", "Big Bamboo" and the album released on Maranhão "Wanted Man". His greatest hits were the songs "Donkey Man", "Queen of Sheeba" and "Oh Jah Jah", music on the same line as "Hello Carol" from The Gladiators. Stanley had been struggling for some time with throat cancer and died in his wife's arms at home a few days after he was 65 years old. It was undoubtedly a great loss for our midst, but his music and work will be forever.
