Last May 18th, the quick, but more than satisfactory, tour of the magnanimous and more than ever original, Skatalites, ended at the Sesc Pompéia taproom. It was the band's third show during their visit to São Paulo. For those who believed that Skatalites would not have an audience, the surprise came with the three shows packed with fans singing and raving with the most traditional band in the world's ska culture.
Just a hint of what happened in the presentations: "Freedom Sounds", "Latin Goes Ska", "Guns of Navarrone", "Lee harvey Oswald", "El PussY Cat", "Old Foul", "Golden Love", "When I fall in love", "Wellcome you back home", "Come Dumb", "Men in the streets", among many other classics. The beautiful "Rivers of Babylon" and "I Should Have no Better" (Original from Beatles), further enhanced the performance.
The repertoire is vast, but the guys don't even need a set list (and some collectors even looked for it). This is one of the advantages of having been on the road for 45 years, the sound emanates naturally. Special thanks to Radiola Records who made this article possible. The negative note is due to the Sesc Pompéia Press Office, which blocked the accreditation of several media outlets, to the detriment of others, considered more important, but unable to understand the importance of this party. Even so, our article was created with the help of Skatalites himself.
