Age comes for everyone, and unfortunately today we lost the legendary Lester Sterling, the last original member of The Skatalites who was still alive. Lester was 87 years old and no longer accompanied the group on tours because of his health. The musician, like many others in Jamaica, learned music at Alpha Boys School. The Skatalites remain one of the most active groups in the history of Jamaican music, constantly touring around the world. Lester played trumpet and saxophone and was the brother of another famous Jamaican musician, Keith Sterling, who played with major names in music, including the legend Peter Tosh.
