Currently in São Luís, considered by many to be the Brazilian capital of reggae, the program Reggae da Conquista has been standing out with one of the highest audience ratings among rhythm programs in the city. The program airs from Monday to Saturday on Rádio Conquista FM 95.5MHz, a community radio located in the traditional neighborhood of Coroado. The program started on 2001 and was presented by Fábio, former vocalist of the reggae band Filhos de Jah, together with Francisco Rasta, a well-known figure in São Luís reggae. The objective of the program was very simple, to provide information that added value to the community to raise awareness among citizens through the lyrics and sound of Jamaican music. Due to commitments with the band Filhos de Jah, presenter Fábio left the program and moved to São Paulo. Thus, the program started to be presented only by Francisco Rasta until the arrival of Joselito Santos, one of the current presenters. Joselito says that he has always had a great affinity with reggae, he always listened to local programs with Fauzi Beydoun, Carlos Nina, Ademar Danilo and that he was already a listener of Rádio Conquista, when he had the happy idea of ​​being part of it. He went through a period of preparation that consisted of participating in meetings, adapting to the programming routine, becoming an operator of all the Radio's programs. With this, Joselito Santos gained experience until the opportunity to do the program together with Francisco Rasta appeared. His debut on Conquista FM's microphones took place on 17.02.02.

MUSIC AND INFORMATION

Reggae da Conquista is different from other programs presented on the Island of São Luís, as it is a program that goes deep into the essence of reggae, giving information to listeners about the singers' biographies, the names of the songs, the record companies, in addition to playing national reggae, etc., which until then did not happen in other programs, the songs were and still are called melô. Reggae da Conquista had a framework called reggae translation and his colleague Francisco Rasta always translated songs that had strong lyrics, especially those with messages that led regueiros to reflect and that could add value to citizens, such as the lyrics of Culture, Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, etc. Still in 2002, Reggae da Conquista suffered a great loss with the premature death of presenter Francisco Rasta and as a result, Joselito found himself alone presenting the program, but gained the partnership of his friend César Roberto who was part of the team and later left to manage his business. After César Roberto left, Reggae da Conquista gained Rob Wailer, a young man from the community with a lot of talent for communication and a very strong identity with reggae, mainly because he was a militant of the black movement and a member of Centro de Cultura Negra do Maranhão since he was little. The young Rob Wailer arrived accredited for Reggae da Conquista for having also presented a Hip-Hop program. The young man became so fond of communication that he is now thinking about studying journalism. Reggae da Conquista has other great values ​​that are Izinho PQD (Direct Quality Stone), Wagner Cobain, Marcelo Cutrim and also has the participation of DJ Belo Roots.

INITIATIVE AND LOVE FOR REGGAE

Reggae da Conquista over these 7 years has worked incessantly in favor of the reggae movement, matured and acquired the respect of everyone on the Island. A significant contribution made by REGGAE DA CONQUISTA to the reggae movement of São Luís was the holding of the 1st Tribute to the Immortals of Reggae, as, due to its great success, it is now part of the annual calendar of major reggae parties in the capital of Maranhão, being in the 4th. editing in 2008. When asked what makes the program different, everyone is unanimous in saying that it is the proximity to the listeners, because when someone is offered a song, they thank them on the street, saying that the song marked an important moment in their life, among other things. The success of Reggae da Conquista is due to the fact that it is a program made by young people who are passionate about Jamaican rhythm, who love what they do. Reggae da Conquista has transformed, through reggae music and its messages, the reality of the Coroado community and surrounding areas, making its contribution so that the regueira nation moves towards awareness, education and ethics, respecting multi-culturality, multi-religiosity and valuing the collective and individual talents of the ludovicense outskirts.   Note: Ludovicense: birthplace of a person born in the capital of Maranhão.
