Legendary "Dizzy" Johnny Moore, founding member of the Skatalites, dies! Check it on Surforeggae!
The internationally known trumpeter "Dizzy" Johnny Moore, one of the founding members of the group The Skatalites and one of Ska's greatest innovators passed away on August 16th at his home in Kingston - Jamaica. Dizzy, who was 70 years old, had been fighting bravely against bowel cancer. Named John Arlington Moore, the artist was born in the Jamaican capital on October 5, 1938. From the beginning Dizzy faced prejudice from his family, who did not consider a musical career to be a way of life. At Alpha Boys School, "Dizzy" met other Jamaican music geniuses like Don Drummond, Lester Sterling and Rico Rodriguez. Moore said goodbye, leaving his mother, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren behind - who knows, we might soon have another great musician on the way?
