Composer Vincent Ford, author of "No Woman, No Cry", a reggae classic enshrined in the voice of Bob Marley, died in Jamaica at the age of 68. Ford died on Sunday (28) in a hospital due to complications from diabetes, said Paul Kelly, spokesperson for the Bob Marley foundation, in Kingston. The song, which appeared on the album "Natty dread", released by Marley in 1974, was inspired by the ghetto of Trench Town, in Kingston, where Marley and Ford lived in the years 1960.
Ford received credit for the song. However, some critics argue that Marley wrote it but gave Ford the credits to help him support himself with royalty income. The composer ran a community kitchen and lost both legs due to illness. He is also credited with three songs on the album "Rastaman vibration". Marley died of cancer in Miami on 1981 at age 36. To this day, the singer is considered one of the Caribbean island's most beloved national heroes.
