Scheduled for May 15 and 16, Virada Cultural reaches its fifth edition this year. Organized by the City of São Paulo through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, it has become the city's great celebration. It is part of the calendar for millions of São Paulo residents who follow it every year. During 24 uninterrupted hours, residents of the capital and tourists – an estimated 330,000 people this year – split their time among hundreds of attractions.
For São Paulo Secretary of Culture Carlos Augusto Calil, "Virada Cultural has established itself as the city's festival, diverse and inclusive." João Sayad, State Secretary of Culture, declares: "the State Secretariat of Culture proudly participates as co-organizer of an event of this scale that has also spread to the interior." With a larger perimeter than last year and incorporating activities in the Luz region – corresponding to the city's perimeter at the end of the 19th century – the 2010 Virada will continue welcoming hundreds of artists and offering the public an endless array of attractions.
