Special edition of "Quintas Dancehall" brings irreverent Eek-a-Mouse to Salvador!

This week, "Quintas Dancehall", the first dance in Bahia focused on the more danceable aspect of Jamaican reggae, in a very special edition, brings for the first time Salvador Eek-a-Mouse, considered one of the most creative artists in Jamaica. The party takes place this Thursday, 7/22, at Zauber Multicultura. In addition to the Jamaican artist, MC Bing Man, a native of the Cape Verde Islands, and the MINISTEREOPUBLICO sound system, who do the honors of the house, participate. The night begins with the sound of Cape Verdean Bing Man, showing songs from his first vinyl. The MC, who has lived in the USA and Jamaica, has as his biggest influences hip hop from the school of master Afrika Bambatta, as well as NYABINGHI (the heart rhythm and the basis of the Afro beat in Jamaica and Hip-Hop, and from where his artistic name derives). Bing Man brings a musicality full of ancestral soul roots and has played with names such as S-uno, Criminal Rap, Akon, Ja Rule, Leões de Israel, Vanessa Jackson, Groove Black, DJ Marky, Afrika Bambaattaa, Negra Li, Funk como le Gusta, Paula Lima among others. Next, Eek-a-Mouse takes the stage to rock Zauber's dance floor, with his “sonic adventure”, as described in the artist's biography, who defines himself as a 'mouse'. "I'm a rat, you know? So I can change my style all the time. There are several different reggae styles now... hip hop, dance, traditional reggae, and that's how I am, unique, you know? Different!", he explains. Classics such as "Wa do dem", "Anarexol" and "Sensee Party", which have been on the minds of reggae fans around the world since 1980, and other hits such as "Noah’s ark", "Christmas a come", "Wild like a tiger", "Do you remember", "Ganja smuggling", "Terrorists in the city", "Operation eradication", "Star, daily news & gleaner" and "Teacher" will be in the show's repertoire, based on their most recent CD "Most wanted" (Greensleeves), released in 2009. Eek-a-Mouse's original style includes elements of "sing-jaying", a technique popularized by the singer using a repetitive vocal melody, or riff, as the basis for his rapping. The result is a rap that is sung, but still has room for exciting rhythmic improvisations. In this Jamaican style, the performer is called a singjay, a combination of singer and DJ. Closing the night, MINISTEREOPUBLICO puts more fire on the dance floor, in a relentless selection of the best of the most danceable aspect of Jamaican reggae, dancehall, and gets the kids dancing until very early in the morning.
