In June 2010, Digitaldubs Sound System released album #1 (Number One), the fourth and best of the collective's career. Innovating once again in the Brazilian reggae market, the album is sold only in digital format — through download at www.digitaldubs.com.br for R$ 1.00 per song. The practice of "paid download" is already quite common in the music market in Europe, the USA and Japan as an alternative to declining CD sales and piracy. On the Digitaldubs website it is possible to listen to full songs and buy them individually or as a complete package, at a fair price — and one that still supports the artists who made this work. The files are high-quality MP3 (320kbps) and the payment system is simple and secure. "Artists, producers and independent labels are looking for ways to keep producing music and making a living from it. Everyone should get a return for their work, right? So why do some people feel entitled to take music made by someone else without paying or without authorization? Unfortunately, without money the machine doesn't turn, especially when it comes to independent artists," says Marcus MPC, founder of Digitaldubs, to Surforeggae.

# 1 – the album

In this work, the country's most important sound system shows the evolution of its sound after nearly 10 years on the road. Besides the traditional presence of various guest vocalists — including living reggae legends such as Jamaicans Ranking Joe and Earl Sixteen, and Englishman Brinsley Forde (ex-Aswad) — the album brings well-crafted instrumental tracks that blend electronic elements with acoustic instruments. Produced by Nelson Meirelles and Marcus MPC (who also handles mixing), #1 had four singles previously released on vinyl singles. The highlight is "Fya Bun Dem" in partnership with Ranking Joe, which became an anthem played by the main sound systems on the European dub scene. Another hit is "War and Crime" sung by Dada Yute, which was the best seller at the world's largest reggae distributor (Ernie B, USA). "Pirate's Game" with Earl Sixteen and "Your Love is Overdub" with Brinsley Forde were also released on singles, and although sung in English, they bring Brazilian seasoning of cavaquinho and percussion over reggae. Among the unreleased tracks are "Liga Legalize" and "Jah Me Guia I" (vocals by Jeru Banto) and "Bandido de Gravata" (performed by Dada Yute), which have engaged lyrics and radio potential; "Sigue tu Instinto" (with Chilean singer Tiano Bless) in Spanish; and the instrumentals "Dub Echoes Theme", "Kaliman Deams", "Transe Amazônico" and "Upbeat Vibes". The album has been receiving excellent reviews from critics in newspapers such as O Globo and Folha de São Paulo and in the renowned English magazine The Wire. www.digitaldubs.com.br/download
