Producer Philip Burrel, better known as "Fatis" passed away on December 3, victim of a heart attack, two weeks after being admitted to the West Indies hospital in Kingston. Doctors discovered a blood clot near his lungs and the producer fell into a coma until his death.
Fatis was the founder, producer and director of the Xterminator label, responsible for releasing artists such as Luciano, Mikey General and Turbulence to the world. Fatis also produced several big names in the 80s, establishing some of the best reggae singers after the Bob Marley era. Garnett Silk, Cocoa Tea, Beres Hammond, Frankie Paul, Sizzla, Chezidek and the great Gregory Isaacs were some of the great ones that surrendered to the Jamaican producer's creativity.
For many artists, Fatis was like a father and great supporter, raising the flag for reggae and Jamaican culture in different countries. His legacy will certainly not be forgotten.
