"The public will know Bob Marley as a person and not as a legend", says the documentary's director. The biggest name in world reggae of all time will have his life told in the documentary “Marley”. On February 12, 2012, the Berlin festival donned the colors of reggae with the presence of Rohan Marley, one of the reggae icon's twelve children.
He went to the festival to present to the world the documentary that tells the most intimate stories of the king of reggae.
At first, Rohan, “We didn’t grow up thinking about money, but about helping people.”, he said. Which at the time also remembered a passage from his childhood, on that occasion alongside his brother Stephen Marley. “We use money to help people, money is a tip towards the goal, we continue with my father’s work”, explained Rohan Marley who captivated the audience with his comments.
The documentary's director also commented at the premiere stating that Bob Marley was one of the most important cultural personalities of the 20th century, as no one had the impact he had on the world. He made the world think about politics and philosophy like no one else. “Marley” will bring up a file that is in many cases unknown to the public. The documentary will also feature interviews with musicians, friends, lovers and relatives of the king of reggae. Plus a great interview with his wife, Rita Marley.
In addition to all the tributes and stories about Bob Marley, the documentary director also commented that he also tried to coincide the presentation of the film with the 50th anniversary of Jamaica's independence, in addition to the 50th anniversary of the legendary The Wailers, a band that Bob Marley was part of. Completing the comment, Kevin said that he hopes the public sees “Marley” and finds Bob as a person and not as a legend, and that after the film people can listen to the Jamaican's songs in a different way.
“Marley” is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on April 20, 2012, distributed by Magnolia Produções. The 144-minute film is the first to have permission from the Marley family to use images from their personal archive. With scenes shot in Ghana, Japan, Inglaterra and Jamaica, the documentary is not yet scheduled for release in Brazilian cinemas.
