New York magazine ranks works by The Congos and Ninjaman among the most important in the world!

The very traditional band The Congos and the legendary "toaster" Ninjaman, are cited for their works in a special list from a New York magazine called "60 Great Albums You Probably Haven’t Heard" - ou em português - "60 Great Albums You've Probably Never Heard". Reggae Roots fans around the world PROBABLY listened, but the list is not of reggae, but of 60 albums worldwide, regardless of musical genre. Absurdly well curated, the list contains names like jazz musician Mel Tormé, classic country singer Lefty Frizzell and artist "afro-beat" King Sunny Ade. Among Brazilian names, we can see Jorge Ben, with the album "África Brasil" from 1976, and Novos Baianos with "Acabou Chorare" from 1972. (click here to see the complete list)

HEART OF THE CONGOS

From the band The Congos, the album mentioned was "Heart Of Congos" (1977), where the magazine asks: The greatest reggae album of all time, or THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME?". This album really will take anyone's breath away. It contains at least two of the greatest songs reggae has ever seen: "Fisherman" and "Can’t Come In". BOUNTY HUNTER

By dancehall singer Ninjaman, the album mentioned was "Bounty Hunter" (1991). Released by VP Records, the album is not that acclaimed, but it presents Ninjaman at the peak of his form. The highlights are the songs "Things a Gwaan", "Cowboy Town" and "Set Me Free". The album also features a special appearance by the late Gregory Isaacs. The magazine mentions that there is a lot of sex and violence in "Bounty Hunter"'s songs, but highlights the pure musicality of Ninjaman, which makes his style "atraente".
