Reggae loses another of its idols: farewell to Bunny Rugs, the voice of Third World!
Last week, news broke about the health status of Bunny Rugs, lead singer of Third World, who was suffering from cancer. Unfortunately, earlier today, on February 3, 2014, the group reported on its Facebook page that it lost its leader last night. Third World is one of the most brilliant bands in the history of Jamaican Reggae and was founded in 1973. William "Bunny Rugs" Clarke joined the group in 1976 and sang on the classic album "96º In The Shade" from 1977 until the most recent, "Patriots" in 2010. With strong influences mainly from Soul Music, Third World became known as the first group to brilliantly incorporate this style into Reggae and several others such as folk-pop and bossa nova and be successful. Bunny Rugs passed away from widespread cancer on January 2nd, 4 days before his birthday and his unmistakable voice will certainly be remembered. Rest in peace, Bunny!
