I RISE! The great singer Etana arrives stronger than ever with her new album!
Etana means “The Strong One” in Swahili, and she certainly doesn't deny the name with her music and presence. Since her debut in 2006 with the thought-provoking “Wrong Address”, this Jamaican singer has established herself as one of the most powerful and unique voices in reggae, blazing a new path in a genre long dominated by men.

Etana's story begins in August Town, a dangerous but culturally vibrant area of an underserved community in west Kingston that has given the world musical talents like Sizzla and Israel Vibration. In her childhood, Etana's house was full of music, but what remained strongest in her memory was country music. “Every Sunday was country music day,” says Etana. A lot of people in Jamaica play gospel music on Sunday, or old-time rub-a-dub. In my house it was country, like Dolly Parton. Tammy Wynette was my favorite of all the artists my mother listened to..." - complete.

I RISE

Now in 2014, Etana continues to move forward with I Rise, mostly produced by Jamaican legend Clive Hunt (Peter Tosh, Rolling Stones, The Wailers, Chaka Khan, Grace Jones, Jimmy Cliff).

“I Rise says a lot”, says Etana. "Over the years I learned a lot, and in that learning process I went through a lot of pain and struggle. So seeing this evolution and this hard work being rewarded was an incredibly good feeling. Every time I go through a difficult day, or any battle or obstacle, I get up the next day and lift myself away from any kind of bad mood or bad energy and keep moving towards positivity. My hope is that this album serves as an inspiration and acts as a bandage for those in battle.” The new album is now available in the country's main digital stores.
