In the early hours of this Saturday, May 23 at 5:30 a.m., the band Ponto de Equilíbrio — touring Brazil with shows honoring Bob Marley's 70th birthday — was robbed on the road in Camaçari, in the Salvador metropolitan area. The band's producer, Arthur Galvão, describes moments of pure psychological terror and even physical violence:
It was horrible, we were pistol-whipped and slapped in the face... — says Arthur.
They placed cones on the road, stopping our van and two other cars. They came straight for the van — it seems it was planned. There were 7 young men; the oldest was at most 20, and one was about 15. — he describes.
After subduing the security guard and driver, the production crew and musicians were taken to Valéria, a peripheral neighborhood in Salvador.
We were in the middle of the favela, and they made us lie in the mud on our backs. I thought the whole time I was going to die. More than once they fired at our faces, but the bullet didn't come out. One of them kept saying "Let's kill just one!".
They were all from Valéria and knew we were from the band. In the van, they were singing our songs. It was terrifying!".
Staying in the capital, Arthur revealed that the musicians are extremely shaken and couldn't even sleep. The producer also sharply criticized the Federal Highway Police, which gave no support in directing them to a police station to file a report. Arthur says all help is being provided by the show's promoter.
What matters is that we're alive. It was terror! Several times they talked about killing us. I've never been through this and thank God we're okay despite everything".
The band's production will analyze a request for reimbursement of what was stolen from the State.
