Barrington Levy plays show eletrizante in the SESC Pompéia in São Paulo! Check it out on Surforeggae!
51 years old. That is Barrington Levy's age. The story starts with this information because the words that follow may leave you wondering if we are really talking about a "middle-aged man". With enviable energy, Barrington Levy shook the foundations of SESC Pompeia, which is becoming a great option for the most demanding reggae fans, as in addition to excellent audio and lighting, perfect schedules, great security, basic services and food in general at incredible prices, legendary artists of the rhythm are arriving more frequently. Recently SESC brought to Brazil for the first time the band Wailing Souls, one of the most important on the world reggae scene (read article). Held at the SESC choperia, the venue holds only 800 people, which on one hand is good for viewing the show, but on the other makes buying tickets a frantic race. In fact, tickets for both days sold out quickly as soon as online sales began on June 17.

LET THE PARTY BEGIN!

(The electric Barrington Levy)
After a heavy instrumental introduction, the legendary Barrington Levy took the stage to the delight of the audience. Opening with "Prison Oval Rock", the sharp band turned every song into a dancehall masterclass. It was impossible to stand still to that imposing sonic groove. Next, the classics "Under Mi Sensi" and "My Time" shook SESC, which tried to keep up with Barrington's electric rhythm as he danced and jumped like a restless boy. Despite his latest release being an acoustic album called "AcusticaLevy", the show was plugged from start to finish, always with dancehall interventions involving the crowd. "Too Experienced", "Mine You Mouth", and the groovy "21 Girl Salute" put everyone in ecstasy, with Barrington exuding warmth and greeting everyone at the edge of the stage. The singer stole the show with that famous — and impossible to copy — vocalization: "Shrwuahda dum dadumd adumdaw uoowwww" - or something like that. :)
(Pure warmth)
Barrington hits extremely high notes with the same efficiency and ease as at the start of his career, and had the crowd following him at every moment, as on the bangers "Under 16", "Teach the Youth" and "Bounty Hunter". "Work" preceded the classic "A Yah We Deh", a major single from the late 1970s that helped pave the way for his successful career in reggae music. The band ended the song by segueing into a frenetic SKA. Then Barrington delivered one of his biggest hits, "Murderer". Many people moved to the front of the stage at this moment, and in chorus they followed the singer in a spine-tingling show of enthusiasm!
(The banger "Murderer")
"Wife & Sweetheart", "Rosie", "Living Dangerously", there was hardly time to breathe. On the fun "Struggler", "reggae n' roll" took over. The song uses the meter of an Elvis Presley classic, "Jailhouse Rock". Next, "She's Mine" preceded two of his biggest hits, "Black Roses" and the powerful "Here i Come". Can you imagine how this SESC shook? Without missing a beat, "Be Strong", the banger "Many Changes in Life" and the beautiful "Vice Versa Love" — where Barrington showed all his vocal and harmonic power — closed the performance before the encore, which featured bangers like "Love of Jah" and "Step up In Life".

MORE TONIGHT!

After leaving the stage, Barrington and his band patiently and warmly met many fans, taking photos, signing records and giving autographs. Tonight (June 27) there is more Barrington Levy at SESC Pompeia, and for those who could not get tickets, try going to the venue anyway, because there are always some cancellations and people end up selling theirs. Good luck to those going. Oh, and remember: NO scalpers! Fyah!
