Ponto drummer Lucas Kastrup takes his acclaimed workshop to the centennial Teatro Amazonas!

Lucas Kastrup, drummer and composer of songs like "Novo Dia", "Velho Amigo", "Árvore do Reggae", "Fio da Fé" and "Santa Kaya" from the band Ponto de Equilíbrio, is currently traveling through several cities with an original project. "Na Batida do Reggae is a lecture on the history of the rhythm with a practical drum and percussion class, for musicians and non-musicians of all ages" - says Kastrup, who besides being a musician holds a degree in social sciences and in his master's and doctorate researched music and religion in anthropology. Initially, "Na Batida do Reggae" would be a documentary about reggae music, but it ended up adopting the workshop format in August 2016. Since then the project has passed through eleven cities, from North to South: Nova Friburgo, Canoa Quebrada, Campos dos Goytacazes, São Paulo, Sana, Vitória, Ilha Grande, Florianópolis, Juiz de Fora, Ubatuba and Bauru. Now, on March 31, Na Batida do Reggae will be for the first time in Manaus, in the schedule of Teatro Amazonas in celebration of its 120 years, with support from sponsors and various partners, as well as the State Department of Culture of Amazonas. It is, without a doubt, a historic moment of great importance for reggae music on the national scene. Kastrup will receive on the Teatro Amazonas stage some already renowned local musicians, and what was once a lecture has become an authentic show, including performances of nyahbinghi songs and chants written by Lucas Kastrup himself, but which until now remain unreleased to the general public.
