Last Saturday, January 15th, the first edition of the Cidade do Reggae event took place in Salvador. After more than two years without major shows due to the pandemic, the public was able to satisfy their longing for good old roots reggae.
The range of attractions was very heavy. Tribo de Jah, Edson Gomes, Mato Seco, Ponto de Equilíbrio, Adão Negro and directly from Jamaica - Duane Stephenson. Duane was the lead singer of The Wailers for a few years and has consolidated solo work, produced by artists like Dean Fraser. At the time he led the legendary group founded by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, Duane was in Brazil on one occasion but this time he finally had the chance to do his full solo show.

At the time, Duane Stephenson replaced The Wailers, who canceled their tour of Brazil due to the pandemic. Despite the regrettable fact, hundreds of people were happy because in addition to Duane, Ponto de Equilíbrio also entered the grid.
The night was opened by Mato Seco who performed an acoustic show for the first time in the capital of Bahia. Duane Stephenson then thrilled those present with a repertoire full of his greatest classics such as "August Town", "Nah Play", "Rastafari For I", "Ghetto Pain" and also beautiful reinterpretations such as "Cottage in Negril" (Tyrone Taylor), Johnny B Goode (Peter Tosh's version), "Top Rankin’" and "Is this love" (Bob Marley).
Accompanied by the "Mafia Crew", the artist showed a huge identification with the city of Salvador and also with its people. Throughout, he was very receptive to people, musicians and also the Riddim Agency production team.

After Duane Stephenson's show, the audience was thrilled with excellent performances by Ponto de Equilíbrio, Edson Gomes, Tribo de Jah and closing the night (which was already day) Adão Negro. Long live Cidade do Reggae and may this be just the first edition of many.

In the middle of Duane's performance, heavy rain began to fall, but it didn't cool down the show and the entire electrifying event that was taking place. Throughout the week there was strong concern, as events were allowed for 5,000 people and capacity was reduced to 3,000.
The production of PIDA followed all recommendations and the state decree, guaranteeing access to the permitted amount of public and also charging everyone present with a vaccination card.
