São Paulo! Kaya na Gandaia releases single featuring Lei di Dai and Pato Banton! Listen!
In this atypical 2021, carnival groups had to reinvent themselves, looking for new ways to connect with the public, away from the streets. Without being able to attract crowds as they have done in the last 8 years, Kaya na Gandaia, a reggae group from São Paulo, dedicated themselves to recording their debut album. After releasing the samba-reggae clip “Te Ver Bailar” on the 12th, the eve of Carnival, the São Paulo block released another single from its first album last Friday, the 19th. “São Paulo” is a powerful song, already a hit in the voices of Lei Di Dai, queen of Brazilian dancehall and vocalist of the block, and British singer Pato Banton, known throughout the world for hits such as “Go Pato” and “Groovin”.

This song, which was co-authored by Lei Di Dai with Pato Banton, made many of our dreams come true. In addition to the honor of recording with an artist like Pato, we managed to include a Toots riddim in the song, so we ended up honoring him too. The other old dream was to play a nyabinghi rhythm with our carnival batucada” - says Digo Amazonas, one of the founders of Kaya na Gandaia. The album “Abrindo Os Caminhos Pro Meu Carnaval”, which will be released at the end of this month, also features appearances by important figures from the Brazilian music scene, such as Roberto Barreto (BaianaSystem) and Afoxé Amigos de Katendê (founded by Môa do Katendê and Mestre Plínio), among others.
