A pioneer in the sound system and rap scene, U-Roy returns to digital platforms accompanied by artists such as Ziggy Marley, Santigold, Shaggy, Mick Jones (The Clash), Tarrus Riley, David Hinds (Steel Pulse), Rygin King, Sly & Robbie, Jesse Royal, Richie Spice, Big Youth and Scientist.
With emotion and pride, the Trojan Jamaica label announces the release of the latest studio record by U-Roy, one of the greatest masters of Jamaican music of all time: "Solid Gold U-Roy". The album was scheduled to be released in 2020, along with a world tour, but, unfortunately, the pandemic delayed plans.
The musical technique of singing-talking to the rhythm of music was developed in the 1960s and spread worldwide. U-Roy was the precursor of this style that influenced both the sound system scene and hip hop.
We made the album 'Solid Gold' because we wanted everyone to know that U-Roy helped invent rap.", says Sharna "Sshh" Liguz, founder of the Trojan Jamaica label alongside Zak Starkey.

Exactly one year before, U-Roy was on his last tour in Brazil alongside artists such as: BNegão, MiniStereo Público and Russo Passapusso, Digitaldubs and the founders of the Trojan Jamaica label, Zak Starkey and Sharna “Sshh” Liguz. At the time, U-Roy released "Wake The Town", the first single from U-Roy's Solid Gold album.
Now, this release materializes as a great collective celebration around the name of U-Roy, the creator of "toasting".
