Rio Grande do Sul reveals another band for the national reggae scene!
Gaúcho reggae has become one of the most striking movements of recent years. The genre grew with great force in the State — mainly in Porto Alegre, which today is known as the "capital of reggae" — where the most diverse works based on this rhythm are developed, which only keeps growing and improving with the most varied influences.
In this way Chimarruts emerges to show what else can be added to this good music. With its own lyrics and songs, it begins to stand out on the musical scene as the revelation band of Gaúcho reggae, thus conquering its own space, audience and recognition, including with the support of various media outlets and their professionals.
With this purpose, Chimarruts began to form in the first semester of 2000, initially with Rafael, Sander, Rodrigo, Bison, Alemão and Lulu, who gave rise to the band's proposal: "Develop a work with original material, serious and professional, aimed mainly at catching the attention of the general public and pleasing it. Thus Chimarruts was born, dedicated to growing in every sense.
Contemplating the beauty and warmth of our city; enjoying a good chimarrão, the best drink to water afternoons of music, the band composed the first songs. Over time they began to do the first shows mainly at private parties. It was then that public recognition began to demand more and more the band's participation in these small events. With this, the members' commitment became increasingly necessary, especially in rehearsals, which ended up forcing a small restructuring.
Some members chose to leave the band due to their individual needs. During this period the band reached its current lineup, where the new members were willing to face the challenge of making music their work and future, taking on the due responsibilities, events, shows, rehearsals, etc. With this lineup of 8 musicians (Rafael, Rodrigo, Bison, Alemão, Ity, Nê and Diego), the band received new influences in its compositions, such as pop groove touches mixed with strong dashes of MPB. The sound is obtained from the basic reggae formation, with Diego's drums, Alemão's bass, Rodrigo and Sander's guitars, the voice of the band's "mentor", Rafael Machado (who from time to time embellishes the base with his steel guitar) and complemented with the softness and soul accent of Ity on backing vocals, Bison's percussion flourishes, plus the luxurious assistance of Nê's flute and harmonica.
From this moment on the band never stopped, the first shows began at the city's nightclubs and small events. From this point came the opportunity to play on Ipanema FM radio, where acceptance of the sound was very good and we gained new friends in promoting the band. The first space had been conquered!
Chimarruts began to concentrate its efforts and resources to record an independent demo CD. The first record of Chimarruts (which is already on the radios) features the songs "Vem, meu irmão", "Quando vejoo o Sol" and "Chapéu de Palha" all written by the band. In the show, besides these and other original compositions, the band appropriates classics like "One drop" and "Vamos Fugir" and adapts them to the band's attitude.
