From the first try! Damian Marley wins a Grammy on his first nomination!

Damian Marley aka Jr. Gong won the Grammy with the album "Half Way Tree". It was his first nomination for the prestigious award. Damian is the second of Bob Marley's children to win the Grammy. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, which include four of his siblings, have already won the award on three occasions. Damian is 23 years old, the son of Bob Marley and Cindy Breakspeare. "Half Way Tree" is a mix of dancehall and hip-hop and was produced by his brother Stephen Marley, with contributions from reggae singer Yami Bolo and rappers Eve and Treach.

Released on September 11 by Motown Records. "Half Way Tree" did not receive much attention in the USA, despite Jr. having done a major tour across the country last October. Motown producers blamed the distractions surrounding the World Trade Center bombing and the attack on the Pentagon on September 11 for "Half Way Tree" not receiving the recognition it deserved from the public, but now after the award the producers certainly will have nothing to complain about.
