Absolute success at the 2002 Reggae Festival. Quality sound with the best bands from Brazil.
Absolute success
It's 6:32 now, and we're already rushing to post the photos and the article, always well written by Amanda Lacerda. Already dedicating patience to: Daniela, Karina, Betinho and Gil, who followed the entire making of the images and news. Well, enough talk, let's report on the reggae night! On the night of June 21, tuned-in reggae fans went to enjoy the Reggae Festival 2002 at Credicard Hall. We know that reggae shows with three or four bands playing per night bubble up every weekend in São Paulo. But festivals organized by larger venues mostly have noble motives beyond simple money collection.
I believe the main goal of this festival was to unite generations. Tribo de Jah, duly considered the mother band of national reggae, came to pay due respect to its children who keep being born in recent times. The presence of Maskavo, also a veteran band (with ten years on the road), together with the mother band, opened the doors to newcomers on the greenest and yellowest night of the year. Let's face it... there can't be a better reason to celebrate to the sound of good reggae than Brazilian art football's victory over the "devastating" English, sending the queen to samba with Beckham!
To start the night, Raízes Rasta's show. A young band, they began the presentation with a sound that quickly spread: they did Bob Marley covers, sang "Vamos Fugir", among others... but really made the audience boil singing "Luz do Sol". The guys have a very characteristic sound mixing instruments and keeping percussion very present in all songs. With great punctuality, the second show was Maskavo's. They seem to be the most pop band of the festival. They made an exciting presentation singing besides the hits, very old songs, remembering formations the band has had. It was beautiful to see everyone with arms raised singing "Asas", a song by Tato from Falamansa, which they played at the close.
The third show, and the most applauded, was Planta e Raiz's. Demonstrating all that pride and satisfaction with Brazil in the World Cup semifinals, Samambaia and Fernandinho paraded with the national team jersey. They started playing the big hits, but also presented several new songs, where the band's sound quality, the almost family-like rapport on stage and Fernandinho's impeccable backing vocals stand out more each time. And besides being successful with the music, these guys also win the clamor of women who scream almost insanely: Zeider, gorgeous!!!! And Don Juan always showed himself gentle, vibrant and, very diplomatically, threw cold water on the girls by dedicating "Aquele Lugar" to his girlfriend. Some found it romantic, but others...
And to close the night, the masters of Tribo de Jah. They sang "War", "Regueiros Guerreiros", "Ruínas da Babilônia" and the beautiful "Chama", among other fine songs. As is typical of the band, they showed that sublime reggae fan sympathy, and Fauzi infected everyone with his swaying, light dance like good reggae. They closed the show at 3:30 AM with the crowd in full euphoria singing "Um só Amor". The night was loaded with sounds so intense they entered the body during breathing and were released gently through the pores along with the sweat of the dance that never stopped. It was a gathering of reggae musicians and spectators, feeling the sound and energy of people on their own skin. A sea of positive vibrations that led us to the most beautiful beach of music and people.
