Second edition of the Amazon rave ends with DUB!

Second edition

MANAUS (Reuters) - The electronic music and ecological awareness festival Ecosystem, known as the Amazon rave, ended in the early hours of Monday morning in Manaus after four nights and three days of performances at Parque Ecológico da Cachoeira do Tarumã. In the early hours from Sunday to Monday, hundreds of people danced to the reggae and dub of British DJ and producer Mad Professor for more than two hours on the open stage by the skate track.

Then the British duo Quietman played trance with vocals accompanied by visuals on a big screen and light projections on the half pipe — U-shaped skate track. Later, when the event's other two dance floors had already been closed, several Brazilian and foreign DJs and MCs, such as TC Izlam, Soul Slinger, OB1, True Master and Mário S., took turns at the microphones and turntables until they ran out of breath. Thus, those who could still stay on the floor heard a bit more trance presented by the Briton Tom already on Monday morning. Sunday night had the smallest audience, organizers said. Although there are no official numbers yet, early audience estimates are approximately 20,000 people in total.

The festival's main attraction, supported by environmentalist group Greenpeace, was DJ and producer Afrika Bambaataa, considered the father of hip hop, who on Saturday night got everyone dancing, even on stage. The event was marked by informality in the lineup. DJs, singers and MCs participated voluntarily, donating their fees to the ecological cause, and entered the lineup as they arrived in the Amazon capital. According to Ecosystem organizers, no serious incidents were recorded during the four days of the festival.

"Security and peace were the keywords of Eco," Manaus student Emma Vasco, 21, who participated all festival days, told Reuters.
