Opening of SURVIVAL, a new option for lovers of REGGAE and DUB!
Nation. I write to comment on SP's newest hotspot. Last Saturday the SURVIVAL project by DJ Marcello Tux was relaunched. New venue, new style, new look, new collaborators, in short a new option. Now with the help of DJ Ricardo Fernandes, spinning one vinyl better than the next in his selection, while TUX shows the crowd what it means to be psychedelic. Or as the flyer says: DJ Marcello Tux (digital) and DJ Ricardo Fernandes (analog).
Dub lovers can already delight in this new space, since we are so lacking venues that offer us this reggae offshoot. It's also worth noting that the club is very refined, unlike those we're used to. In short, a place where your money is well spent and applied by the owners. A luxury nightclub.
As the project organizers say, the club came to select the São Paulo nightlife crowd, already saturated with trend followers without any content. Already at the launch, where many went without knowing about such changes, a different audience could be noticed. Few people dressed as "reggae fans", few boys falling over from smoking or drinking so much, and many women who were there for the music, not for the boys or forró. Of course there's always someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. When MONEY by HORACE ANDY played, in DUB, someone passed by and commented to my friend JAMAICA: they murdered the song. Those who know certainly enjoyed the version. When we hear HORACE ANDY or HUGH MUNDELL, we hear a voice that seems made for DUB, there's no way not to appreciate it.
It was a relaxed atmosphere, with great music (SAY NO MORE by DRY & HEAVY played, speechless). For those who appreciate DUB, it's more than necessary to know the club. A big screen showed memorable shows like TOOTS & THE MAYTALS. Obviously other equally spectacular ones are coming in the next Saturdays.
The two DJs did everything right, live mixes and information about the songs on the microphone, as expected (and awaited). You could see on both their smiles that the party turned out as planned. Everything ran perfectly, and peace reigned in Pinheiros on the night of 09/14/2002. But the reason for this humble text is that everyone be influenced and make sure things like this don't cease to exist. I never thought I'd see something like this here in SP. And to other producers reading this promotion, if you have the opportunity, set up projects like this. I guarantee the audience will reciprocate.
