"Reggae na
The "REGGAE NA LAGOA" project is new to the entertainment scene and has its premiere scheduled for November 19, Tuesday, at 11:00 PM, at Teatro da Lagoa. Conceived by producers Ricardo Tatoo and Augusto César, the event will take place every Tuesday with the goal of strengthening Reggae culture in Rio de Janeiro, promoting exchange among independent bands from all over Brazil. The Teatro da Lagoa stage will host new talents who will have the opportunity to play with more experienced artists. The first edition of the project presents bands Mata Rara, Uncle Jorge and Nayah. The shows feature special participation by Ras Bernardo, former vocalist of Cidade Negra, plus bands Java Roots and São Paulo's Reggae Style. Admission costs R$10.00.

MATA RARA

Band MATA RARA emerged a year ago from a project of independent musicians who came together to play compositions by group Velhas Virgens. It is producing its first CD in ecological Song Book format for summer 2003. The idea is to spread the philosophy of nature preservation and the search for better worldwide quality of life. The repertoire includes known reggae songs plus original compositions. MATA RARA consists of Vítor Maomedes and Caio de Andrade (guitars); Tuca (bass); Rodrigo (drums) and Ricardo (vocals).

UNCLE JORGE

UNCLE JORGE brings a different reggae proposal: "cave" reggae, with massive bass lines, vocal choruses and flutes. Its first work, "Mim se a Brasilian", features lyrics in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and German, aiming to unify ideals of all peoples. The band has performed at Mistura Fina, Hipódromo Up, Mercado Mundo Mix and Cantareira. The band consists of Ivan Cozac (voice and guitar); Felipe DB (voice, guitar and keyboard); Gabriel Costa (bass and synth); Sílvio Leal (acoustic and electronic drums) and Javier Posada (rastroparabolicman).

NAYAH

Niterói band NAYAH emerged four years ago and presents songs about freedom, happiness, love, poetry, fear, theater and visual arts. Without pretension, it has a style proposing to youth a new artistic concept through breaking "traditions" and "standardizations". The proposal is artist valorization and innovation, surprising the audience with broken arrangements, style fusion and bold costumes! The musical style is "Reggae Fusion", with marked influences of Jamaican reggae, samba and MPB. Since 2001, it has performed various shows in other states. Alongside Tribo de Jah, they gathered more than 4,000 people at Praia da Ferrugem, SC. The independent CD "Ritmo da Vida", the band's first, features established national artistic personalities like "Gringo Cardia" (artistic producer), "Wallace Cárdia" (musical producer) and "Gustavo Black Allien" (ex-Planet Hemp), who believe in the originality of the proposal. The band is formed by Mumu and Carlos André Martins (vocals); Felipe Escovedo (bass); Gustavo Freire (drums); Dalton Leonardo (rhythm guitar) and Igor Carvalho (percussion).
