Success: Bragança Paulista hosts the 1st CentralReggae & Surforeggae with Tribo de Jah. Check it out!

"If Mohammed won't go to the mountain..." A well-known saying, but let us change it a bit: If Bragança won't go to Reggae, Reggae will go to Bragança. Incredibly, the unwelcoming Bragança Paulista had never hosted a show in the segment. Surforeggae, together with one of its main partners, CentralReggae, made this possible and, on November 28, 2003, the 1st CentralReggae & Surforeggae Festival was established.
Even though it was the first edition, the event featured none other than the great Tribo de Jah, and the equally powerful Mystical Roots and Dagô & RadicalRoots. To round out the lineup, the band Soul Roots and the band Nagah, which would kick off the series of shows at approximately 11:00 p.m. The Nagah band's repertoire (photo) consists basically of covers of Bob Marley, Ponto de Equilíbrio, Gilberto Gil, names well known to the crowd present, which was setting the stage for what was to come.
Adding a certain contrast to the scene, Nagah leaves the stage for Dagô and his inseparable RadicalRoots. This band is quickly establishing itself as one of the best on the national circuit. The wonderful compositions "Dreadlock", "Ser Feliz" and "Principal" fired up the crowd in Bragança. Even though they owed the crowd "Ana e a Lua" and "Sentimento", the performance was unmatched, very striking (photo). Without much time for talk, the Maranhão band Mystical Roots begins its performance. Heavy tracks from the first album and some new compositions made the set list "weigh in", and as always, the beautiful vocalist Luciana Simões (photo) unleashes her powerful voice to give others goosebumps. For some time now, Mystical Roots has been firmly placed among bands of true Roots Reggae. End of another great Mystical show, and the most anticipated band of the night would take the stage for an unforgettable performance... Tribo de Jah.
Drawing sighs from their fans, Fauzi Beydoun (photo) exchanges a minute of ideas with the crowd and from there on it is nothing but heavy tracks, no mercy. "Reféns da Violência", Fauzi's version of the Gladiators' "Know Yourself Mankind", is the first on the huge set list prepared for the night, though with Tribo de Jah, any order could be broken.
Impressive to see this band playing. The bass is simply devastating (photo), and the drums, with a peculiar cadence (video), make clear why Tribo holds a place among the best Reggae bands in Brazil.
Classics such as the beautiful "Chama" were followed word for word by the excellent number of people packing the venue. To play "Babilônia em Chamas" and "Regueiros Guerreiros", Fauzi calls Glauber from Raízes Rasta and Soul Roots vocalist and show organizer Daniel (photo).
With the nonstop rush of the event and the emotional performances alongside Tribo de Jah, Daniel lost his voice, preventing Soul Roots from performing. Even so, the message was delivered, captured and spread, seeing bands so important to the Brazilian Reggae scene reaching yet another territory for the delight of Roots Reggae.
