Drummer Joe Isaacs criticizes and launches a project that promises to move the hearts of reggae lovers!

Drummer Joe

Veteran Studio One drummer Joe Isaacs is on a project to reunite his colleagues with whom he worked, responsible for creating numerous hits at the famous Studio One. In addition to this project, Joe (one of the founders of Studio One), is working on a documentary about the Studio. "We are the people who were part of the foundation of the Music industry in Jamaica at that time, and my intention is for us to reunite again to show people exactly how Studio One was formed and everything that happened there," said Isaacs.

Isaacs also speaks about the fact that he and several other pioneers were not properly recognized or paid, resulting in many disappearances, many even dying of hunger. A book is also being written by a young woman from California, who discovered Studio One through the Internet and was very impressed. "She will be writing not about the history of Studio One, but rather the history after we abandoned all of that," reveals an indignant Isaacs. The documentary has already begun and will be completed in Jamaica.

"Most of the people who call themselves producers today were not here when the music was being structured. Basically it was the musicians themselves who chased after the promotion of their work, little recognized at the time, and which today is considered (finally) the root of Jamaican music," the veteran drummer adds. He also speaks with great feeling and passion about his colleague and master, Jackie Mittoo. "A man who was key to all of Studio One. Many people to this day do not know about his contribution to the rise of Studio One and what he did for our Music.

At that time, we recorded 12 songs every day, and Jackie Mittoo was in charge of all 12. He was the one who most of the time told the bassist (Bryan Atkinson) what to play, me (the drummer) what to play and how to play. He was the man who created all those rhythmic patterns that today are recognized as Classic Reggae Roots, but nobody knows that." During this testimony, Isaacs became very emotional and even cried while recounting the facts.

"They, the musicians of my era, were part of building the Empire called Studio One, which has existed from the 60s to today, and which earned me 5 decades of dedication and effort to be what it is today. However, the people of creation, those who made everything happen, did not gain recognition, did not gain money, did not gain anything. But we gained the greatest gift of all, we gained the blessings of God, who gave us life and skill to unite again as the "Soul Vendors", and the name of the album to be released is Together Again.

The album, which has more than 35 songs by the Soul Vendors, formed only by original members of the Studio One lineup, who at different times were called Soul Brothers and Soul Dimension, was released 2 years ago by a small label in California, Early Bees.

"These different names (of the Soul Vendors) were put together as a Marketing strategy by Clement Dodd, who is a great man, he knows a lot about marketing and business. To be honest, if he hadn't given us the opportunity to make these songs, I wouldn't be saying anything now. So, while I can say something, I can say that I love that guy".

Commenting on the reunion, Isaacs said: "The idea of the reunion is very good, we are doing all the songs, all the tracks, that were produced at Studio One by different producers, all the songs of our lives all over again".

"No one in this world can tell me that I cannot record again what I have already recorded, because they cannot do anything about what I created with God's help. Anything I did before I can do again, because it belongs to no one". Said Joe, who joined Studio One at the age of 16.

The album Together Again will be formally presented to Jamaica on December 26 and 27 of this year. "We are nine musicians, the 9 who took the name of Studio One to where it is today. This lineup has not been seen by anyone since 1968. Absolutely no one has seen this group from that time until today. We will have Ken Boothe on vocals, Bob Andy, John Holt, Alton Ellis, Cornell Campbell, among other singers who will be with the band"
