Reggae B makes its debut in Salvador and puts on a show with the best of authentic Jamaican music!
Have you ever imagined a Brazilian band playing all those hits from the golden years of Jamaican Reggae? That band exists and is called Reggae B. Formed by great musicians from Paralamas do Sucesso, Planet Hemp, Negril, among others, Reggae B, as its name already says, carries the proposal of playing everything from ska/rocksteady to reggae and dub. The event that took place last Saturday (June 5) in Salvador featured the participation of the band 20 Xote 1 Galope (forró), Mosiah and ReggaeB. The Mosiah band warmed up the audience, sending all its vibrations in songs that are quite well known to Bahians. The strong point of the presentation, without a doubt, was the presence of an extra element: the horns, which are not very common in Brazilian reggae bands. "Mosiah Roots" emerged in 1998 and today is one of the reggae bands in Salvador that most attracts audiences to shows of the genre.
After Mosiah's vibrant presentation, everyone was already anxiously awaiting the stars of Reggae B, which is made up of Bi Ribeiro on bass, João Fera on keyboards, Cláudio Menezes on guitar, Marlon and Bidu on horns, Ronaldo Silva on drums, Black Alien and Valnei on vocals. As the Jamaicans would say, "Big tings a gwaan", or "Good things are coming". With a repertoire full of classics, Reggae B opened the show with a Ska by Don Drummond, followed by several other "reggae hymns", such as "Guess Who's Comming to Dinner" by Black Uhuru, "Wa do Dem", by Eek a Mouse, "Forces of Victory" by Linton Kwesi Johnson, "Number One" by Gregory Isaacs, among others. The feeling of being able to hear all these "Anthems" (as hits are called in Jamaica), played by extremely professional and competent musicians, was the best possible, and left the audience with a feeling of full satisfaction. Bahia awaits another majestic presentation by Reggae B, which will always be well received wherever it goes. For those who don't know the work, it is really worth checking out. Keep this name in mind, as it will certainly attract a lot of attention from true appreciators of the original Reggae played in Jamaica in the 70s – 80s.
