Pre-release show for CD JAH I RAS - "SELASSIE I VIVE" is a source of pride for national reggae!
Venice, a bar located in Pinheiros - SP, was the stage for a unique experience for reggae, where music and strong messages of praise were the focus. Despite the efforts made, unfortunately not everything is love, and militancy is also present in the lyrics of the band Jah I Ras. On April 27, the São Paulo band pre-launched its album "SELASSIE I VIVE" for a small but privileged audience that witnessed such quality in musicians who went beyond the primary criteria of music. Stage presence, originality, punch, lyrics... I found meaning for the cold Wednesday night. To warm up the audience with many classics of world reggae, DJs Jai Mahal and China Kane, both from the "Reggae Raiz" program on Brasil 2000 (107.30), commanded the decks. At a quarter to one in the morning, China Kane begins a sequence that I consider important in the evolution of Brazilian reggae. Modern Roots with enveloping and extremely heavy bass lines, the snare drum being punished, firm and harmonious vocals — in short, everything to exalt the rhythm of Jah. The Jah I Ras vibe can be calmly compared to Steel Pulse or, more recently, the latest album by The Congos "Give Them The Rights", on the song "Capture your Smile" more precisely. With an imposing instrumental introduction, the band takes the stage. From there on it was pure emotion. "Som, Palavra e Poder" and the beautiful "Jah Providenciará" show the full commitment to Rastafarianism in their consistent messages. The reflective lyrics of "Eu e Eu Derrubo a Babilônia", followed by its strong instrumental power, thrilled every soul in that place. And speaking of excitement, I cannot fail to mention "Grettings", a sound that any foreign label would love to have in its roster... What a banger!!! The "woodpecker" guitar, the bass lines wandering in low and sad notes and the excellent vocals of Ras Kadu make this song one of the best in my opinion, followed by "Jah Providenciará". The vocalist has charisma and, with feeling, makes citations to the audience: "...Jah is the farmer, Jesus is the vine... and we are the fruits of this vine." Another song that drew a lot of attention was "Cristovão Colombo". A "finger in the face" of those who marked history. Do not fail to attend Jah I Ras shows, and see for yourself the truth of every line written here, the quality of each composition by the band and its meticulous particularities. Closing with "Back to Afrika", the band says goodbye leaving the expectation for the Official launch of an album that celebrates love, unity, awakening critical sense and praise to Jah. "Whether through love or pain, Jah will enter your life!"
