Formed in Salvador, in 1996, Adão Negro is the most popular band of the new Bahian reggae (a generation that modernizes the tradition of the Jamaican genre in Brazil) and has reached its fourth CD, “Vence tudo - Ao vivo”: the first released by a record label, the São Paulo-based Atração Fonográfica. The previous CDs were released independently: “Adão Negro” - 1999, the live “Só Directory” - 2000 and “Vence tudo” - 2003. Recorded at the Ed 10 concert hall, in Salvador, on October 16, 2004, “Vence tudo - Ao vivo” is a tour of Sérgio Cassiano (voice, guitar, acoustic guitar), Aurelino Fábio (drums), Valtinho Cabeça (bass), Marcos Guimarães (guitar), Dino Cerqueira (percussion), Fabrício Pitombo (keyboards) and Marcelo Nem (keyboards) for the repertoire of the group's first three CDs and for the history of reggae made on Bahia, with the honorable participation of Edson Gomes in “Perdido de amor”. Additionally, the album features the previously unreleased “Proteja sua cabeça” and “Marasmo”. The tracks “Botar um”, “Metal reggae” and “Vence tudo” are well known to the loyal (and growing) audience that follows Adão Negro (since 2003 with a base also established in São Paulo). Before singing the beautiful and positive “Vence tudo”, vocalist Sérgio Cassiano tells a significant story: during a show in Sampa, a fan in tears, in the dressing room, confessed to having left his life after armed robbery because of the band's messages. The re-recordings of “Do jeito que seu nego gosta” (Lazzo), “Me abraça e me beija” (Lazzo), “Perdido de amor” (Edson Gomes), “Chegada” (Nengo Vieira) and “Nayambing blues” (Sine Calmon) explain the emotional connection between Adão Negro and the generation that built the basis for the consolidation of reggae in the State of Bahia. Edson Gomes, the greatest master, gives the air of his special grace and, morally, shares the vocals of “Perdido de amor” with Sérgio Cassiano. In addition to Edson Gomes, “Vence tudo - Ao vivo” features another special guest: Márcio Mello (Bahian rocker from the 80s who has had compositions recorded by Cássia Eller and Daniela Mercury) sings on “Proteja sua cabeça”. Rock, in fact, is one of the active elements of the subversive musical exercise - and full of good vibes - by Adão Negro, a reggae band that lives in the present with an eye on the future and that does not forget the lessons of the past. May Jah and the new reggae gods protect these (and other) good new Bahians.
