O EVENTO

República do Reggae, one of the biggest reggae festivals in the country, will be held on Saturday, November 5th, at Wet´n Wild, from 7pm. On stage, the best local, national and international attractions: Andrew Tosh [son of Peter Tosh], Ky-Mani Marley [son of Bob Marley], Edson Gomes, Adão Negro, Diamba, Mosiah and Arthur Cardoso. “A República vem se tornando um dos eventos mais importantes do calendário baiano e ganhando cada vez mais visibilidade nacional”, says party producer Alessandro Caribé. With shows by established bands and a different audience, the Republic aims to rescue the true spirit of the “regueira” nation, in a party with lots of peace and music. “Será um dia de celebração com muita vibração positiva”, promises the producer. To achieve this, the production is assembling a superstructure. The dance floor is wide enough for everyone to enjoy the party in comfort. The box, located on the left side of the stage, holds up to a thousand people. The parking lot has capacity for 1500 vehicles. Everything to transform the party into another unforgettable event. Another new feature this year is Stage 2. As the name suggests, it is the second option for the public. Several bands that make the reggae movement throughout the year throughout the countless neighborhoods of the capital of Bahia will perform at this event and that also deserve space at this super event.

AS ATRAÇÕES

Andrew Tosh, a written copy of the legendary Peter Tosh [their physical resemblance is incredible], was premeditated to continue the family musical tradition since his father's funeral in 1987, where he gained recognition. It is a gift that is carried with great pride and continues to be exercised deservedly. For the past two years Andrew has dedicated himself to a special tribute in honor of his father, performing with local bands around the world. This is the kind of show where he incorporates Peter Tosh's old songs as well as his own songs. With a strong reputation and great stage presence, Andrew Tosh is one of the highlights of the new generation of Jamaican reggae and promises to be another milestone in the history of the Republic of Reggae. Ky-Mani Marley is the latest singer in the family. He was just 6 years old when his father, Bob Marley, died. He began his career in 1999. He is currently releasing the album Many More Roads and proves to be the true heir to the mantle of the king of reggae. In this 3rd album, the singer demonstrates individual growth and illustrates the duality of his personality: singer and conductor. The result is an urban sound deeply rooted in reggae and hip hop cultures. Edson Gomes is one of the most respected artists in Brazilian reggae. There is no denying that his music is strongly inspired by everyday social dramas, hence its political connotation, which is echoed in cultural, union and student movements. Edson sings about the struggle and search for the ideals of black people. Hits like Malandrinha are milestones in the formation of national reggae. With engaging chords and a fantastic rhythm, Edson Gomes transforms music into an instrument of protest, taking his messages of peace, love and equality between people to the world. His 1st DVD, recently recorded at a big show in Salvador, will be released soon by the record label Atraction. With eight years of existence and with an already consolidated career across the country, the band Adão Negro makes roots reggae inspired by true Jamaican rhythm. Their songs are full of high spirits, mixing the harmony of reggae with hints of rock and ska, exalting and encouraging love and peace through inspiring and denouncing lyrics. The group has Bob Marley as an idol and inspiration for their compositions. Currently, the band has taken up residence in São Paulo to follow the marathon of shows across the country. The success of songs such as Metal Reggae, Adão Negro, Botar Um and Vence Tudo is proof that the band is today considered one of the main bands on the country's alternative circuit. The first DVD, recorded last year, also by Atraction, during the Republic of Reggae, is now available in the main stores. Diamba's sound has no borders. Its essence is Jamaican, but the sauce is Brazilian, plural and complex. The band was born here in Bahia in 1996, quickly gaining a loyal following. Today it influences other groups that strengthen a new reggae scene in the state. His 9 years on the road provide evident security in his arrangements and lyrics, mixing themes such as modern life, nature and love. Hits such as Possas Crer, Já É and Viva a Vida, from the second work entitled Tempos de Épocas, already have a guaranteed place in the repertoire of this show. Mosiah Roots was born in 1998 with six friends who aim to express themselves through reggae. The group began to search for its own roots, mixing Jamaican rhythm with Bahian music, thus reaching an increasingly larger audience. The road, the coexistence, the mistakes and successes were polishing and sealing the union between the band members, promoting their growth. In 2000, they recorded a demo CD and, in 2002, released their first album, Mosiah Roots Ao Vivo, an independent production, which had excellent repercussion, becoming the sales leader in some stores in the capital of Bahia for months. In 2003, they released a promotional compact with three new compositions. Perhaps this year the band will record the video for the new song Demora, which is part of the repertoire of the new CD that should be released at the beginning of 2006. Everything also indicates that the band will record the first DVD in December. Former member of the band Adão Negro, Arthur Cardoso now pursues a solo career following the same style of music. He is the author of great hit songs such as, for example, Botar Um. The singer promises to surprise the reggae crowd in November.
