Founded in 1980, Sindicato do Reggae was born from the initiative of five friends, Nardelli, Cryolo, Sérgio Narigon, Bastos and Edson. They have been fans of the lifestyle and music since the first time they heard the sound of Reggae in 1976. With a lot of effort, they began to spread the musical style on Guará and Núcleo Bandeirantes, carrying a message of peace and equality among people.
Reggae brought "discórdia" into the world of music, Dj?s were against broadcasting any sound from Bob Marley, but after a lot of struggle and persistence the Jamaican anthem took over the dance floor, the few vinyls and cassettes spread the engaging melody of reggae among young people of the time. The Union today has a unique collection at Brasil, with more than 50 imported books that narrate the life of Bob Marley and the history of Rastafarismo, magazines, newspapers, posters, paintings, souvenirs, Cangas, flags, vinyls, VHS, DVD and photos that tell the story of everyone who marked Reggae in Brasil and in the world.
Brasília discovered this transcendental melody through the first Tribute to Bob Marley in 1981, which managed to bring together more than 3 thousand people in the Guará II square at QE 32. The audience present enjoyed reggae since the Ditadura era, and because of this they were persecuted, tortured and arrested. The stereotype of "Maconheiro" and "Subversivo" attracted the attention of the authorities, who, because they did not understand, tried to exterminate what they could not combat.
"É evidente que o reggae é subversivo, perigoso e talvez devesse ser proibido, o reggae é musica de fora-da-lei, primitiva e tribal, o reggae é hipnótico, é uma musica de transe, é uma tempestade cultural emanando das caraíbas."
Stephen Davis & Peter Simon.
Sometimes there are some criticisms regarding Brasília's reggae, and those who criticize listen to bands that have ideology only in the lyrics, and do not transform them into a lifestyle. Big names in global and national reggae have already visited the union, such as: Julian Marley, Mark Miller, Groundation, The Gladiators, Israel Vibration, Andrew Tosh, Dom Carlos, Fully Fullwood Band, Zion Train, Rãs Bernado, Camafeu, Levitas, Mira Reggae, Coração Rastafari (Brasília bands) and Leões de Israel - SP, as well as renowned producers such as Israel Mizrach, Geraldo Carvalho (in memory) and Johnny B. Good, which shows the responsibility and credibility of the group, everything is documented in videos and open to the interested public. The Union is here with the support of ACI Carvalho and Tony Guardieiro to welcome everyone who loves reggae and is thirsty to know more about the life of the King.
