Jamaican idol Gregory Isaacs, known worldwide for being one of the most romantic singers of international Reggae, once again had a remarkable visit to the country. The first two cities to host the star's show were Maceió and Salvador respectively, both with large audiences. Gregory Isaacs, who this time was accompanied by none other than saxophonist Dean Fraser, one of the most famous and important Reggae musicians, was in Maceío, the beautiful capital of Alagoas on July 6th.
At the show, other attractions such as Leões de Israel (SP), Adão Negro (BA) and Vibrações (AL) warmed up the audience for Gregory's arrival. The band Leões de Israel, once again having the honor of representing Brazilian Reggae, being Gregory's support band throughout the tour, did well and enchanted the great maestro Dean Fraser in the first rehearsal. The Maceió show was full of classics such as “My number one”, “Private beach party”, “Soon forward”, “Border”, “Tune In”, among other big hits that were all sung by the Alagoas public. This was Gregory's first time in Maceió, and people didn't believe he was there, with the general comment being that it would be a cover and not the authentic one, which has more than 200 albums recorded and is approaching 40 years of career.
In Salvador, the event was Bahia Reggae, which had an audience of 17 thousand people who stayed until the end to see the Jamaican, the main attraction of the night which also featured, respectively, the performance of the bands Zion, Leões de Israel, Edson Gomes and Isaque Gomes, Adão Negro and Natiruts. Leões de Israel, for the first time presenting their solo show in Salvador, stole the show, putting on a sensational show full of riddims, in an incredible performance. Also noteworthy is the performance by Isaque Gomes, son of Edson Gomes who sang before his father's entrance and really excited the audience. The band Adão Negro stood out for its strong acceptance from the public, who sang all the songs and interacted throughout almost the entire show.
The last attraction of the night, Gregory Isaacs accompanied by Dean Fraser and Lions of Israel took the stage to ease the tension of the many fans who had already been waiting all night. To start the show, a devastating instrumental sequence by Lions of Israel and Dean Fraser with songs like “Rockfort Rock” and “Real Rock”. The time then arrived and the famous medley with “Mr. Isaacs” classics drew screams from the audience. Gregory was very smiling when he saw the huge audience that was waiting for him, and he improvised several times during the show, with Dean Fraser acting like a true maestro alongside the Lions of Israel who left without leaving any debt to the Jamaican base bands.
The show ended with the day light, leaving a good feeling caused by a large audience that had fun peacefully. Now we have to wait for the next international shows that will take place on “Bahia de todos os santos” (as the late Geraldo Carvalho and the Ivory Coast star – Alpha Blondy would say).
