Dezarie shows canceled in Brazil spark angry crowds! See on Surforeggae!
What was meant to be another celebration of peace and lots of reggae became a true nightmare. Singer Dezarie’s show, from the Virgin Islands

What was meant to be another celebration of peace and lots of reggae became a true nightmare. Singer Dezarie’s show, from the Virgin Islands, was canceled in São Paulo, Jundiaí and also in Rio de Janeiro, according to the production team because of health problems with one of the group’s members. In São Paulo, at a packed Expresso Brasil, people waited until almost daybreak and were surprised when the announcement came that the main attraction would no longer perform. It was easy to imagine the audience’s reaction.
According to the show production and Expresso Brasil, everyone will be reimbursed this Tuesday, May 19, at Expresso Brasil itself.
THE SHOW
The event began with a "Jam Session", a kind of fusion of musicians regardless of their bands. The reason was that Usina Reggae, Realize and To Fly did not have their complete lineups, so their members mixed together so as not to let the audience down. First came Usina Reggae, which began to set the tone for the night with plenty of ragga, dub and roots reggae. Expresso Brasil was already starting to fill with the crowd when Realize took the stage, showing the strength of southern reggae, which was very well received by the São Paulo audience. To Fly, A Tropa, Maneva and Da Mata were the other bands to perform, and until almost 5 in the morning the impatient crowd continued waiting for Dezarie.THE CONFUSION
With the audience tired and complaining constantly about the start of Dezarie’s performance, the Surforeggae team went backstage to record the stage setup and the diva’s entrance. When they arrived there, nothing had started, and there was also none of the typical movement that precedes the entrance of an international attraction. It was then that, only at 5:30 in the morning, Johnny B. Good went on stage accompanied by the Expresso Brasil team and the Show Production team, informing everyone that Dezarie would no longer perform because of health problems. See the video below.
(Attempts at an explanation at Expresso Brasil)
The crowd’s reaction began even before any statement from Johnny, because when he appeared and the curtain opened partially, it was clear that there would be no more performances. Cans and bottles flew toward the stage amid boos and attempts at explanation from Johnny and the Expresso team. There was a mix of people leaving the venue and others breaking whatever they could.
What naturally angered everyone was the fact that the announcement had not been made right at the beginning or before the event, since the Jundiaí show, which would have taken place earlier that same night, had already been canceled for the same stated reason.
