Meet PAIDEIA, the reggae of Zeca Bulcão!

Composer since 1978 (more than 100 songs under his belt!),Zeca Bulcãofinally decided to record his work on CD: he is releasingPAIDEIA, band name and CD title, twelve tracks of good music and accurate lyrics. All compositions are his own.

The choice of the wordPAIDEIArefers to his activity as a philosophy teacher: it was with this word that the Greek people designated and conceived the ethical, aesthetic, moral, spiritual and political formation of their citizens; something much, much broader than our current concepts of education, culture, art and civility, but this is another reggae.

Zeca started out composing rock, funk, ballads and even bossa nova, but in 1980, at the now legendaryGilberto GilandJimmy Cliffshow at theFonte Novastadium in Salvador, he was definitively captured by reggae. Since then, Zeca has dedicated himself almost exclusively to the genre. But, in addition to the specifically musical identification (rhythm and sound of the genre), he is interested in the humanist philosophy that pulses and propagates at the heart of reggae.

According to Zeca: “... the discourse and praxis of liberation and denunciation, the search and construction of peace in large and small acts are the only chance for human happiness; but reggae happiness is also a warrior happiness; warriors of love, the people of reggae know that love is the great ethical, aesthetic and existential foundation of humanity, the most powerful force that moves man; without love, the leader no longer governs well, the builder does not build for the common good, the educator does not lead to righteous path and the wise man has nothing to say... and peace, freedom and love are the body, soul and heart of reggae... that's what I do, that's what interests me: reggae music.”

Good voice timbre. Serene, but infectious stage presence. Man of culture. Inventive musician and inspired poetZeca Bulcãoworks with the same care and rigor on music, harmony and lyrics. He is the one who says: “in addition to being a powerful musical genre, reggae is a worldview and attitude to life, therefore, it is poetry... the poetry of simple but fundamental things”. Today, without losing the strength and freshness of roots reggae, Zeca rhizomes, that is, he dialogues with the harmonic conception of jazz, with the power of rock, with the texture of blues and with the pulse of baião.
