On December 13th, Thursday, the official date on which master Gonzagão would have turned 100 years old, Cine Joia promotes a big party, with a show by the band Bambas Dois, a project by musician and producer BiD. The presentation is scheduled for 11:30 pm. Before and after the show, there will be DJing by Ras Afonso, which will feature the traditional wall of boxes from Musical Jah, an authentic Maranhão radio station, with a sound system that exalts the golden years of Jamaican music.
Led by BiD (guitar and vocals), the band Bambas Dois brings together great musicians from Brazil who are part of other successful projects: Felipe Pinaud (Orquestra Imperial/ guitar and flute), Décio 7 (Bexiga70/ percussion), Tiquinho (Funk Como Le Gusta/ trombone), Marlon Sette (Orquestra Imperial/ trombone), James Mu (Funk Como Le Gusta/ percussion), Eder “O Rocha” (Mestre Ambrósio/ percussion), Xuxa Levy (keyboard/ flute), Rafael DumDum (bass), Ricardo Prado (accordion) and DJ Gustah (MPC/ effects). Dada Yute, a reference in national reggae, makes a special appearance.
In the repertoire, in addition to remembering songs that were immortalized in the voice of the King of Baião, the band shows the tracks from the new album, which is based on a mix of northeastern and Jamaican rhythms. The party also marks the launch of the clip for the new single “Cauê” (BiD, Dada Yute, Xuxa Levy, DumDum), directed by Instinto Coletivo and filmed at the Soul City studio (BiD), with scenes in Serra da Cantareira and footage of Brazilian indigenous tribes.
About Bambas Dois - Project (CD Book)
BAMBAS DOIS (soulcity:produssas) is a project that unites Brazilian and Jamaican culture in an unprecedented way. In the same album, they compose, create and play together some of Jamaica's greatest artists and representatives of various generations and aspects of national music, mainly those from the North and Northeast.
It all started in the head of producer BiD, who has always been involved with innovative musical experiences, including the most important album of the 90s, Afrociberdelia, by Chico Science and Nação Zumbi. The idea came up when BiD was on a boat in Jamaica and played Chico César's album that he had just produced, “Francisco, Forró y Frevo”, and the boat's driver started following the lyrics and singing along. “Then I had a moment”, highlights BiD.
Some time later, alongside producer Gustah, BiD went to Jamaica carrying the compositions in his suitcase, several in partnership with Fernando Nunes, in the form of instrumental bases pre-recorded by the Brazilians in Soul City. Arriving there, after careful pre-production, he met with 13 representatives of the Jamaican music scene. Each one composed the lyrics of the song they sang, often in partnership with the Brazilians. "The kinship between Jamaican and Northeastern rhythms is evident, but their combination resulted in a third thing that is neither reggae nor forró. The songs were reborn", says BiD.
Participating in the album are Luiz Melodia, Dominguinhos, Chico César, singers Karina Buhr, Céu, Thalma de Freitas, Anelis Assumpção, bassist Bi Ribeiro and also Siba, Dada Yute, the members of Nação Zumbi, Dengue, Gilmar Bolla 8 and Lucio Maia, among other Brazilians. And so did the cream of Jamaica's contemporary music: Sizzla Kalonji, Kymani Marley, I Wayne, Jesse Royal, Queen Ifrica, The Heptones, Tony Rebel, U-Roy and Luciano. All in remarkable performances, inspired by the character of this project with grandiose features, but which started independently and in a playful way. In total there are 13 new tracks and a version of “Something”, a Beatles classic, now performed by Luciano, accompanied by the master Ernest Ranglinna on guitar. All of this in a luxurious CD Book, with exclusive photos and enlightening texts by journalist Otávio Rodrigues (Bumba Beat).
