União da Ilha da Magia (UIM) was the second school to parade on the Nego Quirido catwalk, in Florianópolis, in the early hours of this Sunday (2). The presentation that started at 0:15 am told the story of musician Bob Marley. UIM is the youngest of the associations, founded in 2008, with the theme “From Lagoa to Jamaica, a journey alongside the King”. The history of Jamaica, the trajectory of Bob's band, The Wailers, the impact of the reggae leader's messages of peace and politics, the Rastafarian religion, as well as the impact of the rhythm in Brazil and the world were covered. The school, which took the title in the last parade, descended on Nego Quirido with 2500 members, 17 wings and 3 floats.
The front committee represented the music, and there was a stage with a dancer like Bob Marley. Before the opening ceremony, a black tent was set up where the cover by the singer, Rafael Alves de Campos, 28, appeared. I'm an architect, but I dance. I have a friend who is from school. Because I look like Bob and love reggae I was chosen. I'm very honored." - he said.

The first couple of master and flag bearer paraded in the colors of the Jamaican flag: green, yellow and black. The second couple paraded in costumes about environmental changes promoted by reggae. Drum godmother Paula Paes even had her name engraved on her shoes.

DISTINGUISHED PRESENTATIONS

On one of the floats, practically unnoticed by much of the press and public, the legend Bunny Wailer paraded alongside Andrew Tosh, son of his late Wailers partner, Peter Tosh. In the dressing room, he was accompanied by the Jamaican ambassador to Brazil, Alison Stone Roofe.

Cindy Breakspeare, who was Bob Marley's companion and is the mother of Damian Marley, also participated in the parade, in the last car "Bob Marley - The Movie".

SAMBA ENREDO

Composed by Julio Maestri and Vinícius, the samba plot that mixed the magic of reggae music with the joy of carnival, rocked Nego Quirido, and paid homage to King Bob Marley and the entire reggae culture with great respect and affection. Listen to the samba plot below.

FLOATS

Ala das Baianas brought the theme "The Queen Makes Jamaica Independent", when Queen Elizabeth II declared Jamaica's independence. The drums represented samba and reggae. The second car carried symbols of the Rastafarian religion, such as the lion of Jah and Haillé Selassié, who was president of Ethiopia and is considered the religious symbol of the incarnate god.
The school also presented a quadripod with the Jules Rimet Cup. In 1980, Bob Marley was in Brazil hitting the ball on the football field at Chico Buarque de Holanda's house in the presence of national team player Paulo Cesar Caju.
