ZUMBI LIVES! Vibrações' lead singer receives a beautiful tribute from the Government of Alagoas!
The Secretary of Culture of the State of Alagoas paid tribute on Black Consciousness Day to the lead singer of Banda Vibrações, Luiz de Assis. In the text shared on the Alagoas Government's Facebook page, Luiz is cited as an example of resistance, struggle and awareness, just as Zumbi dos Palmares was. It doesn't hurt to say - for those who don't know yet - that the band Vibrações is one of the most notable on the national scene today, it has content songs that really teach a lot of things to those interested in the message, in addition to an impressive technical execution of the songs. We at Surforeggae congratulate Luiz de Assis, his parents and the entire Vibrações Family!
(Listen to the beautiful song "Zumbi Vive")

FULL TEXT

Zumbi dos Palmares and Luiz de Assis. Two blacks, two Brazilians. One lived in the 17th century, while the other is our contemporary. Besides skin color, what else do Luizinho and Zumbi have in common? Would you have something in common with them? Zumbi was born free in 1655, in Serra da Barriga. At the age of 7, he was captured and handed over to a Jesuit who taught him to read and write, including Latin. He fled to Quilombo dos Palmares at the age of 15. A little later, Zumbi would become the leader of more than 30 thousand black people who did not accept slavery. Luiz de Assis is a composer and vocalist for Vibrações. The band from Alagoas mixes Jamaican reggae with Afro-indigenous drums and MPB. A recognized artist, he participates in the Black Movement and lives intensely the messages of peace that his songs spread. Zumbi and Luizinho are examples of resistance, struggle and awareness. Zumbi dos Palmares is a historical icon of the fight for freedom. Luizinho, nowadays, promotes respect for diversity and the strengthening of black identity through art. The Government of Alagoas pays homage to all the Zumbis and Luizinhos of our land, who carry with pride the mission of building a tomorrow of equality, peace and social justice. Zumbi lives and his strength, as Luizinho says, is always encouraging us.".
