Rolling Stone magazine recently published a ranking of the 100 most important drummers in history (across all styles). On the list, Carlton Barrett, former musician of The Wailers, appears in 29th place, and Sly Dunbar, from the duo Sly & Robbie, in 65th.
Carlton is also cited as the most influential musician in the history of Reggae and responsible for immortalizing the "One drop" beat. Unfortunately, Barrett was murdered in 1987 in Kingston at the age of 36.
Sly Dunbar remains active and turns 64 on May 10. He is known for his unique and innovative style established from the beginning of the 70s until today.
