The República do Reggae Festival, the largest of its kind in Latin America, is completing 13 years and has already announced a large part of its lineup of attractions. This time the event will take place at Wet’n Wild in Salvador, on November 19th, the day before Black Awareness Day.
This year the list of attractions was created following suggestions from the public and taking into account the availability of the artists' schedules. Several legendary names have already attended the festival, such as Gregory Isaacs, Lucky Dube, The Congos, Bunny Wailler, Alpha Blondy, Groundation, SOJA, Dezarie and Midnite, as well as the biggest national bands.
In 2016, 4 international and 4 national attractions have already been confirmed. From Jamaica, Israel Vibration, Culture (feat. Kenyatta Hill) and Siddy Ranks. From Mali (Africa), Koko Dembélé and from Brazil, Edson Gomes, Ponto de Equilíbrio, Mato Seco and Adão Negro. Other local attractions will be announced soon.
Owners of an infectious stage performance and an instrumental weight rarely achieved by other Reggae groups, Israel Vibration continues to shape the world and redefine the term Root Reggae. Skelly & Wiss and the Roots Radics band will come to Salvador to show the new album “Play It Real”.
Ponto has already performed mind-blowing shows in the Republic and this year will be no different - Helio Bentes promises to shake up the Festival by singing the new hits from the new CD "Essa é a nossa música”, lançado esse ano.
O grupo é oriundo da Vila Santa Maria, em São Caetano do Sul (São Paulo), e deste o seu início vem demonstrando um crescimento incrível, tanto musical, como de público.
O nome "Mato Seco" refers to resistance, represented both by the force of nature, and of its people, who despite being oppressed continue to resist and fight to survive.
Cyrenius Green, or Siddy Ranks as he is known in artistic circles, was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica. At the age of ten, he began attending the Baptist Church in the village of Berry Hill, where he acquired inspiration to sing, changing the direction of his life forever.
Siddy won over the Republic crowd in 2015 (photo), where he performed an unforgettable show. This year he also promises a Tribute to the great and late Gregory Isaacs.
Culture was founded in the 70s by Jamaican Joseph Hill and has a large number of hits from roots reggae lovers. Unfortunately, Joseph passed away suddenly in 2006 during a tour and his son, Kenyatta Hill, previously the group's sound engineer, took over the lead and vocals.
In Salvador, Kenyatta comes to show Culture's classics and also songs from his most recent albums “Pass The Torch” and “Riddim of Life”. It will undoubtedly be an unforgettable show full of energy.
Edson Gomes needs no comments. In addition to being considered the King of National Reggae, he is one of the pioneers of the rhythm in the country. With a repertoire full of hits, Edson is always one of the most celebrated attractions by the public at the Festival.
Directly from Mali, Africa, Koko Dembélé is one of the biggest phenomenons in African reggae here in Bahia. With a well-known hit, the song “Amagni” was the most played on all radio stations here and achieved incredible repercussion. Koko returns to Salvador to show her classics and also her new album “Tieba”.
Adão Negro, in addition to having enormous respect from the public and affection from many fans, is completing 20 years of his career. Nothing more fair than holding this celebration at the Festival.
In 2015 they were also present, putting on a memorable show.
