Trojan Jamaica has gained a Brazilian sister! On January 24, 2020, the Trojan Brasil label begins, with the release of several singles by artists: U-Roy releases “Wake the Town”; Sshh, in partnership with BNegão, announces “Extra Extra” and Covil do Flow “Favela Town.”
Celebrating the label's arrival in Brazil, three shows will take place in the country: the first in São Paulo on January 25, at a free event for the city's anniversary; on the 26th, the artists go to Rio, and this is the only show where Covil do Flow will perform; and finally to Salvador on February 2, Iemanjá Day.
Trojan Jamaica was born in 2019 from Trojan Records, under the BMG label. The goal was to celebrate the music of the Caribbean island and explore all its local or foreign influences. They realized that in Brazil there is also this niche:
“We came to Brazil in July to promote the Jamaica label,” reported Zak Starkey in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone Brasil. Alongside Sshh, the musician founded Trojan.
While we were in Rio, a friend played us a song by a rap collective from Rocinha called Covil do Flow. They sound so new, fresh and original, and they are also very prolific. We loved it.”
Sshh recorded her new track, “Extra Extra,” alongside another Brazilian artist: BNegão.
He is a great talent with a masterful ability to combine different styles with the best results...” - praised the Australian artist.
Planet Hemp is like a Brazilian Cypress Hill with a touch of Rage Against the Machine. He has an attitude with a sense of anarchy, so I wanted him on the song.”
Now they bring this together in the music and also in the Trojan Brasil performances:
