Reggae suffers two losses in the same week! Farewell to Jawara Tosh and Dobby Dobson!

Reggae Mundial suffered two major losses this week. The first of them was Jawara McIntosh, known in artistic circles as Tosh 1, youngest son of the founder of The Wailers with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh.

Jawara was arrested in 2017 in the USA without any criminal record, and what would last 6 months in detention for marijuana possession cost him his life. After being attacked by a cellmate, Jawara fell into a coma and remained hospitalized for more than a year. Despite coming out of the coma, the brain damage was extensive and he survived for around 3 years without being able to speak or move, until his death at the age of 40 on July 17th.

DOBBY DOBSON

The other regrettable loss for Reggae this week was that of a veteran - Dobby Dobson, who suffered from Alzheimer's and contracted the COVID virus, passing away on July 21st at the age of 78 in the USA.Dobby recorded at the end of the 60s for some of the biggest music producers of the time such as Coxsone Dodd (Studio One), Duke Reid and Sonia Pottinger (known as Miss Pottinger). His big hit was the song “Loving Pauper”, covered by other icons such as Gregory Isaacs and Freddie McGregor. Dobby also worked as a producer for artists such as The Meditations and Barrington Levy. In 2011 he received one of Jamaica's most important awards - the “Order of Distinction” for his contribution to Reggae and Island Culture.
