Cidade Negra founder Da Ghama releases single in partnership with Evandro Mesquita. Listen!

Singer, songwriter, hitmaker, and guitarist Da Ghama has just released the single "Reggae do Avião", which will be part of his next album and features Evandro Mesquita, leader of the 1980s phenomenon Blitz. The new track, which will be released on the main digital platforms, will have a music video in March. I wrote this song inside the plane, way in the back of the aircraft, very quietly with my guitar, and then passed it to Evandro Mesquita to write the lyrics. Meeting this deconstructed carioca was really cool”, says Da Ghama, who also recalls that the idea for the partnership came up backstage at an Evandro and Erasmo Carlos show in a theater in Niterói, in 2008. It is not the first time they have sung together. Evandro Mesquita adds: Da Ghama had sent me a little tape he made on an air shuttle, full of captain and airplane noises. Then I wrote lyrics over the melody talking about this journey that love is, and it turned out really cool!” Tony Sheen, drummer of the band Afrodizia, signs the musical production of the single, which also features special appearances by musicians from Planta e Raiz: bassist Samambaia and guitarist Franja.

The video portrays the very story of the song made inside the plane. Andrea Coutinho, who sings backing vocals on the track, plays a flight attendant. The audiovisual direction is signed by Marcelo Garcia and will be released on the singer's official YouTube channel at the end of March. The new track will be part of the repertoire of the artist's third solo album, "Sinal da Paz", which will feature several special guests and is expected to be released in the second half of this year.
