11 septembre : une date tragique pour l'humanité et aussi pour le reggae ! 22 ans sans Peter Tosh !

When speaking of September 11, the whole world is certainly moved as it remembers the attack on the World Trade Center (Estados Unidos), which made a series of victims and marked the history of the country. What many people do not know is that on the same day, but in the year 1987, one of the most militant and revolutionary musicians in history was murdered - Peter Tosh. Peter (Winston Hubert McIntosh) was born in Westmoreland in Jamaica and formed, in the early 60s, the Wailing Wailers with Bob Marley and Bunny Livingston (Bunny Wailer). Remembered for his rebelliousness and for always harshly criticizing the system, Peter began his solo career in 1976 with the album "Legalize It", which achieved great success in Jamaica and in the world. Winner of the Grammy in 1987 with "No Nuclear War", which boosted his career, Peter Tosh had his life interrupted in the same year. The singer's house in Jamaica was invaded by three armed men, supposedly robbers, but they did not take a single object. Among the criminals was Dennis "Leppo" Lobban, whom Tosh had recently helped find a job after serving a prison sentence. Many say Tosh was killed for political reasons, since he did not hide his feelings, openly criticizing and making fiery speeches in his shows about what he called shitstem (sistema de merda). He is gone, but he will certainly always be remembered by lovers not only of Reggae, but of quality music. We at Surforeggae could not fail to pay this tribute, and to remember that his son Andrew Tosh continues to carry his legacy forward. The resemblance, not only physical but also vocal, is simply impressive.
